The Breath

I’m immersed in breathwork. Pranayama as it is called as a part of yoga practice.

I’ve always been interested in working with the breath, and how it helps with managing stress.

Taking deeper breaths, holding the pause, alternate nostril breathing, different counts. Maybe you’ve tried some too.

So when my yoga teacher talked about the benefits of pranayama particularly for people in my stage of life, it grabbed my attention. Bang for your buck, it said to time poor me.

Clear out the gunk from the system. Let the breath touch the mind. Undo the actions that disturb the mind. Come to the subtle and attend to the breath. You that are with me always let me listen, let me feel, let me follow, in as many ways as possible. Lead me to the clarity.

And then how will know I asked? When this subtle action has happened.

And through the line my teacher’s teacher said, you will see it in the others. How you feel and relate. What happens on the outside.

So it’s something to look into. If you’re interested, find a teacher and give it a try.

I feel it in different ways. But my favourite – the calm.
